Prayer Shawl ministry
A new outreach ministry has formed at St. James, a prayer shawl ministry named “Threads of Compassion”. A group of ladies (men are encouraged to join us to either make a prayer shawl or help pray over the finished shawls) has come together to knit/crochet shawls or lap blankets. We meet twice a month, usually the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to knit or crochet in Christian fellowship.
We come to knit/crochet because each of us, in our own unique way, has encountered the mystery into which our craft inevitably leads us. We laugh a lot, we share what we know, we learn from one another. A simple love between people who love the same art is awakening and taking root, filling our circle with joy and delight. When our shawls or lap blankets are finished we say a prayer on them and have them blessed so that they can be given to someone who needs comfort or support whether it be a time of happiness, sadness, or time of stress. If you have a love of knitting or crocheting, please come and join us for fellowship but most of all to reach out to others. |
All you need is a size 11 or 13 pair of knitting needles or a size M crochet hook. We can supply a pattern for you or you may have a favorite shawl pattern of your own which you could share. There is a limited amount of yarn available for your use.
If you know of someone who could use a shawl, please let our pastor or anyone in the group know. It could be someone from St. James or a friend or relative you may know. Anyone who is dealing with an illness, physical disability, grief, or someone celebrating going to college, marriage, or a birth are all reasons to share a tangible outreach from us to let them know we care and send our prayers with them. Our meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the parlor. Come join us! |
